Monthly Meetings
Due to Coronavirus restrictions we're currently holding our monthly meetings over Zoom - recent talks have included Victorian gardening, the history of London bridge and Mary Queen of Scots. Members have also received activity packs, sometimes posted or hand delivered and sometimes virtual, with activities including pot-pourri making, origami and beaded bracelets.
We meet on the last Thursday of the month to listen to speakers or enjoy a workshop - whatever we're up to you'll always learn something new! Our programme is set by our members, who make suggestions throughout the year and participate in an annual survey so the committee know what people want to see.
To give you a taster, previous workshops have included belly dancing, mosaic making, crafting Dorset buttons, making beeswax food covers, soap carving, sketching and many more besides. We've had speakers on Victorian true crime, the history of beer, Kew Gardens, Crystal Palace and the story of the first female factory inspectors in the UK. We've even had our very own pantomime - StreathamElla.
We've also heard wonderful stories from Judge Barbara Mensah, the inimitable John Brown of the Streatham Society, and - memorably - the late, great Cynthia Payne.

Spin off groups
Due to Coronavirus restrictions many of our groups are meeting virtually, with recent activities including virtual Portugese wine tasting, hot cross bun baking, glass-painted tea light holders and decoupage Easter eggs. We also have a weekly virtual coffee morning to give members the chance to chat and catch up with one another.
Members of Streatham WI are also able to join our groups, which meet regularly. Currently we have a book club, wine club, creative writing salon, film club, Pins & Needles (our craft group), a coffee morning, regular walking events and Meet & Eat (a regular trip to the latest food offering on Streatham High Road!) Find more details on the Groups tab.

And there's more...
Annual Seaside day out - One of the highlights of the Streatham WI calendar! Over the years we've visited Brighton, Rochester, Eastbourne, Portsmouth, Southend-on-Sea, and Margate - we're on a mission to enjoy as much of the beautiful British seaside as we can easily reach from South London. Annual residential trip - members have enjoyed nights away in Scarborough, Poole and the Isle of Wight. |
